Since our words are consistently unreliable, it causes distrust to grow as we relate to one another. When trust is broken, we must find biblical ways to find forgiveness and healing.

  • How Trustworthy Are You?
  • How Much Do You Trust Others?

Proverbs 10:7-12

7 The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.
  • Our legacies will be determined by how we lived (10:7).
8 The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.
  • Wise people are characterized by receiving God’s truth (10:8).
9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.
  • Wicked living will be found out eventually (10:9).
10 Whoever winks the eye causes trouble, and a babbling fool will come to ruin.
  • People whose interactions are known by slyness causes trouble in relationships (10:10).
11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
  • Our speech either brings life or pain to others (10:11).
12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.
  • Love can actually cover up wrongs done in our relationships (10:12).

#1. Never Confuse God for Man

19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
  • God has never once broken a promise, so don’t make him pay for the mistakes of others.
  • Even when people let you down, remember that God is faithful.

#2. Never Make One Pay for the Mistakes of Another

  • We typically carry over significant hurts into other relationships.
  • If in our love we can cover over past offenses, we can enjoy the good of healthy relationships.

#3. Never Overlook a Helpful Lesson

  • Don’t waste a hurt by evaluating what happened and why it happened.
  • To “walk securely,” we must become better even through the pain we experience.

#4. Never Neglect an Opportunity for Reconciliation

  • If you broke the trust, you must commit to earning the trust again.
  • If your trust is broken, you must clarify what needs to be shown to give it again.

#5. Never Use Pain as an Excuse for Sin

  • It is unhealthy to justify your own sin because of what has been done to you.
  • Don’t add more pain to the pain you have already experienced.
