Introducing Milestones

“Milestones” is a book for parents that allows parents to see a progression of spiritual milestones from birth through high school as your child matures in his or her faith. We desire to walk with you to see your child trust Christ for salvation, go with a commission to reach the world for Christ, make a commitment to serve others, obey the commandment to make continual progress in spiritual growth, and to have communion with Jesus in worship with Him and His church.

Family Ministry at Rocky Creek is a partnership between parents and the family ministry leaders from the preschool, children, and student ministries. Your ministry leaders spent a large portion of the year of COVID thinking about the commands of Scripture to disciple preschoolers, children, and students. While we are eager to accomplish that kingdom assignment in our own homes, we are also eager to walk beside you as you disciple your child toward maturity in Christ.

Proverbs sets the stage for us as parents to give godly counsel to our children. King Solomon wisely instructed his son with sound advice. Proverbs is filled with words from a father to his son on right ways to live in relationship with God and with others. Solomon knew that his son didn’t yet have the wisdom and life experience to know these spiritual life lessons without Solomon as the Father directing the child’s path.

Every generation needs to be reminded of God’s stories of faith in the Bible and God’s stories of faith in the lives of family members. Every generation needs to know who God is, what He has done, and that He is faithful. Psalm 78 outlines how that process of family discipleship is carried out.

Read Psalm 78:1-8, and then note the following points:

  • Stories of faith were passed down from generations past.
  • Praise was given to the Lord for all He had done.
  • Ancestors were to teach their children.
  • Generations yet to be born would be impacted by the passing down of a spiritual heritage.
  • Children would learn from those who turned from the Lord.

We take our calls to parenting and ministry seriously. On Sunday, May 16, we shared a gift for our families of preschoolers, children, and students.

“My Spiritual Milestones,” will serves as a journal of spiritual growth markers as your child matures in his/her faith. In the child’s journal, there is a place for parents to tell the child’s family history, to record parents’ stories of faith, to record memories from family dedication, to mark the movements from the preschool area to the children’s area/from the children’s area to the student ministry area, to record the child’s salvation story/baptism, to tell about firsts like baptism/Lord’s Supper, and to give parents of teens helps in addressing purity, cell phones, and driving.

Before your child leaves the student ministry area, your child will be equipped to identify a life verse and mission statement. Your child will understand that his/her next steps outside of your home involve a life mission that God has been equipping them for since their birth. Parents, you are a catalyst for this spiritual growth, and you are the primary influencers of your child’s faith development. Your ministry leaders are your cheerleaders. We commit to help resource you with the tools you need to be successful. We commit to being your biggest cheerleader in guiding your child’s spiritual development through these “Spiritual Milestones.”
