The latest Upward Basketball and Cheer season has already begun, and we have 279 children in grades K5 through 6th participating. This gives us an excellent opportunity to teach the gospel, not only to the children, but also their family and friends that come to see them play and cheer.

The Apostle Paul said this in 1 Corinthians 3:

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”

The Upward ministry gives us the opportunity to both plant and water, and only God knows what the increase will be. Between the participants, coaches, and those that come to watch the games, this ministry has the potential to interact with over 1,000 individuals over the course of a 9 week season. Between 10 practices and 8 games, there are over 10,000 opportunities to reach out to someone in our community and share the Gospel. That’s a lot of planting and watering.

You can grab your share of the planting and watering opportunities by either giving the opening prayer before a game and/or giving a 3-5 minute halftime devotion during one of the Saturday games. Devotion material for each week is already provided, you just need to adapt it to an adult audience. Perhaps your Sunday School class can “Adopt a Saturday” and split up the prayer and devotion duties for the day.

There are other ways to get involved as well. If you feel lead to serve in this ministry, please email Todd Taylor at upward@rockycreekonline.org.

    Thanks.
