    Sing with the local church

    1 Peter 2:4–5
[4] As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, [5] you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (ESV)

We are are the church being built together by God to stand forever.

Jonathan Edwards once said: The best most perfect way that we have of expressing a sweet concord of mind to each other is by music.

    WE NEED EACH OTHER
We are forged together by our singing together.
We must sing together, not watch others sing and enjoy them.
we are members of a multi-generational, Multi-ethnic, multi-everything family. we need each other.
we should never be in church merely or primarily for what we can get, but for what we can give!!

“Our singing (even when it falls off pitch) should always, unapologetically, contribute to our sense of family and community and never be rushed through, mumbled through, or handed over to the “professionals”.”

“A church that sings together -across generations, standing side by side, putting community inits before personal preferences-is making a powerful and attractive statement to those who yearn for community more authentic than can be enjoyed online and friendship deeper than is found in counting your Facebook friends”

We each are responsible for the singing legacy we leave behind.

we have the music of today the songs that are for this moment and we also have songs that will last a lifetime and need to be passed on.

    Singing Helps the church.

“Not all singing churches are healthy but all healthy churches are singing churches”

we need to continue to sing as a church and invest is the next generation, showing them the importance of singing!

    A question to ponder….

How do you prepare for church or Sunday morning prior to the service? On Saturday night? Throughout the week?

In our next session we will look at “The Radical Witness when congregations … sing”

(Each lesson is a highlight and summery from the book “SING” by Keith and Kristyn Getty, 2017 B&H Publishing.)
