The book of Esther helps us understand about some of the Jews who did not return to Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile.  Mordecai and Esther are two of the main people in this book, and although God is not mentioned directly in the book, Esther is still about God.  The book describes how He is sovereign and controls the events of history.  It also confirms what James wrote years later – “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”  God is accomplishing His plans through His people, and nothing will be able to stop Him or completely destroy the Jews.
