Desire God

We often go down a path of wanting the things of heaven but not the one who gives us heaven. We must desire God above all else.

It is easy in this life to get caught up in the things we need or think we need. Our minds often ponder, from a lack of security, that if we only had more money, we would be in a better place. Perhaps we would be happier if we just had a better job. Life would be easier if we didn’t have our health concerns. All of these things may be needs that we feel like we have. But each and every need we think we have stems from the greatest need of all. Because each and every need we have stems from the greatest problem of all. The problem? Sin. The need? Salvation. The solution, Jesus.

The Problem

All of life’s difficulties and circumstances around us are summarized in the three-letter word… sin. We may not see how the sin in our life directly correlates to not enough money. However, God makes it very clear as Adam and Eve leave Eden that our spiritual condition will have real physical consequences. We are separated from our creator. The imago dei is marred and dirty because of this sin.

The Solution to Our Problem

When we are dirty, we need a bath. When we are stained from the sin of this world, we need to be washed and covered by the righteousness of Christ. Each of us needs to be covered by the righteousness of Christ. Each of us needs salvation. To be declared righteous before the Lord. How can that happen? Only by the blood of a perfect sacrifice. Only by the blood of the God-Man, Jesus. Who died on the cross so that we may live. The only solution to our problem is Jesus. No amount of money, power, work ethic, or status can save us. Only the blood of Jesus.

Desire Jesus, Not Just The Solution

When we understand Jesus is the only solution to our sin problem we should praise Him with all our might. Unfortunately, we often change our outlook and want what Jesus gives more than we want Jesus. We want healing, but not a healer. We want life, but not the life-giver. We want blessings, but not the blessings. This leads us down a path of wanting the things of heaven but not the one who gives us heaven. Above all things, desire God.
