4 Months in the Word

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  -Ps. 119:105

As a pastor, there are so many things I would love to see happen in our church.  My prayers focus on many things I would like to see be transformed within our lives, our homes, our church, and our community.  As I have prayed, I have come to a realization:

Any good desire I have for our church originates from the Bible.

My hope for our church family does not come from my ideas.  They come from the Bible’s instructions.  I want the way we pray, evangelize, love, serve, love spouses, raise children, worship, and give all to come from a manner that is described in the Bible.

We need to know the ways of God.  We need to follow more closely the ways of God.

You discover God’s ways by studying God’s Word.

That’s why I am beyond thrilled that we start The Word this Sunday, August 6, 2017.

The Word is a 4-month journey through the Bible.

Starting in August, we will conclude after Thanksgiving, and my prayer is that by then our church will be able to be described as those who long for the Word (Ps. 119:131).

Here are some of the things that you need to know:

  • Aug. 6 – I will be sharing why the intake of God’s Word is so vital to our lives to kickoff our series.
  • Aug. 13 – I will preach a sermon that summarizes the entire narrative of the Bible to help show that it is not a collection of isolated stories, but rather the one story of Jesus reconciling the world to himself.
  • Aug. 20 – We will begin the 100-Day Chronological Bible reading plan that focuses on 50 pivotal Old Testament passages and 50 pivotal New Testament passages.  During these 100 days, I will preach from a passage that coincides with the reading plan to keep us on the same page.
  • Aug. 23 – Our Fall Programming lineup starts up on Wednesday evenings.  In addition to some Gospel Groups and other options, we have two groups that will be giving teaching that corresponds with the Bible reading plan.  Marty Miller will lead our student ministry to unite with the Bible reading plan and teach from a passage within the week’s reading.  Jeremy Johns will also lead a Bible study for adults with the same approach.  It’s a great way to really learn the narrative as we go through.
  • Aug. 27 – On Sunday evening at 6, I will begin our Equip program where I will teach a course for the Fall on how to study your Bible.  We will be learning the principles of hermeneutics which teach people how to interpret the Bible correctly.  Anyone and any age can take this course, but you can also get seminary or college credit through enrolling in Equip.

Now is a great time to study the Word together!  Bring along someone who you has always had questions about the Bible.  We start this Sunday!

Stay updated with the sermons from this series!
