Teaching your child to respect you is essential. A child who disrespects their parents will become a student who disrespects their teacher. Then, an employee who disrespects their boss. Ultimately, a person who disrespects God.
The progression is inevitable.
The commandment to honor your father and mother has a promise attached, ‘that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land. This promise is not a guarantee, but it is logical. If the child honors their parents from a young age, they are less likely to do things as they grow, which could cause an early death or a lot of trouble that has consequences.
