We’re making disciples who take personal responsibility for Kingdom activity.
Discipleship isn’t an element of a strategy: discipleship is the strategy. It’s more than the leadership attempting to fulfill the Great Commission - we want to help you make progress in what matters so you can help disciple others. Rocky Creek desires to see a day when everyone is discipling someone.
What We Believe
The Bible is God’s Word, written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is fully inspired by God, inerrant, perfect, life giving, and life changing. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. The Bible is Absolute Truth, the final authority for faith and life.
Psalms 12:6; 119:105,160; Proverbs 30:5; Matthew 5:18; Luke 24:25-27; John 14:26; 16:12-13; 2 Timothy 1:13; 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 3:16
The Lord Jesus Christ has instructed two ordinances for the local church, baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is the action of the believer; the full immersion is a symbol of the union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.
The Lord’s Supper is to be observed repeatedly throughout the Christian’s life as a sign of continuing fellowship with Christ, as a remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice for the believer’s sins. The bread is broken to symbolize the breaking of Christ’s body, and when the cup is poured out, it symbolizes the pouring out of Christ’s blood for the believer.
Matthew 26:26-29; 28:18-20; Acts 8:12; Romans 6:1-11; 1 Corinthians 10:17; 11:23-26; Galatians 3:27; Colossians 2:11-12
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. Everything has been created by Him and for Him. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1,26-27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Isaiah 46:9-10; Matthew 23:9; 28:19; Luke 3:21-22; 10:21-22; John 1:1-5; Romans 1:7; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Timothy 1:1-2; 2:5-6; 1 Peter 1:2-3; Revelation 1:6
No one knows the time, but Christ will return personally and visibly to the earth to judge all men in righteousness. The righteous will be eternally in union with God in Heaven and experience eternal life, but the unrighteous will exist eternally separated from God and experience eternal punishment in Hell. Satan, his demons, death, and hades will be defeated forevermore and will be thrown into the Lake of Fire. God will make all things new – a new Heaven and a new Earth – and will reign forever over all things.
Matthew 7:21-23; 16:27; 19:28-30; 24:3-25:46; Mark 9:43-48; Luke 12:35-48; 16:19-31; 21:27-28; John 3:16; 14:1-3; Acts 1:11; 17:31; 1 Corinthians 15:12-58; 2 Corinthians 5:1-10; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12; 1 Peter 1:3-5; 2 Peter 3:1-13; 1 John 5:11-13; Revelation 20:1-22:13
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Jesus was born of a virgin, conceived of the Holy Spirit, and lived a sinless human life. He offered Himself as a substitution, payment and justification for the sins of all men by dying on the cross, the perfect sacrifice. He was buried and after three days, He arose from the dead to demonstrate His power over sin and death. After His literal and physical resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven.
Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:22-23; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; 3:24; 8:34; 14:9; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; 2 Timothy 4:1; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14-15; 7:25; 9:24; 1 Peter 1:3-5; 2:24; 4:5; 1 John 2:1-2
Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can a person be saved from sin’s penalty.
Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1; John 10:29, 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5; John 3:16, 2:25, 5:11-13; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 15:35-55; Daniel 12:2
The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every believer from the moment of salvation. The Christian is to seek to live under His control daily.
John 14:16-17; 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 2:12-14; 3:16; 2 Corinthians 3:6,17; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13; 5:18
All human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.
Genesis 1:27-28; 4:10-11; 9:6-7; Exodus 20:13; Leviticus 20:1-5; Deuteronomy 5:17; Job 31:15; Psalm 100:3; 119:73; 127:3; 139:13- 16; Isaiah 44:2,24; 49:16; Jeremiah 1:5; Matthew 5:21; 19:18; Luke 12:6-7; Acts 17:25; Ephesians 2:10
Man is created in the image of God. Since Adam disobeyed God, all men are guilty of Adam’s original sin, unable to come to God on their own, and have a nature of disobedience towards God, which is called “sin.” This attitude separates man from God. Those who have placed their trustin the finished work of Christ are forgiven and adopted as children of God, and they will spend eternity with Him.
Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; 5:12-21
God creates each person as male or female, and these two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. The term “marriage” has only one meaning, and that is, the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive, life-long union, as delineated in Scripture and established by God. God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. Husbands are to love their wives as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself for her. Wives are to submit to their husbands as the church submits to Christ. Parents are to love and admonish their children in the Lord. Children are to obey and honor their parents.
Genesis 1:26-28; 2:18-25; Matthew 19:5-6; Mark 10:6-9; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11,18; 7:2-5; Ephesians 5:22-6:4; 1 Thessalonians 5:22; Hebrews 13:4
Common Questions
We partner and cooperate with other churches and organizations of the Southern Baptist Convention. A few years ago, an alternate name was created that we also use called “Great Commission Baptists.”
We organize the church under the authority of Jesus (Col. 1:18), the leadership of the pastors (Acts 20:28), the service of the deacons (1 Tim. 3:13), and the ministry of the members (Eph. 4:12). Pastors faithfully preach the Word of God and cast vision for accomplishing the mission of the church. Deacons prioritize ministering to the congregation by addressing spiritual, financial, physical, and emotional needs.
We provide quarterly Waypoint updates to celebrate the work of the Lord through the ministry at Rocky Creek. Some of the updates are in-person gatherings and others are video presentations. Short informational QuickLook videos provide updates between the quarterly Waypoints.
Rocky Creek was constituted on February 1, 1834, with 18 charter members from Brushy Creek Church after a revival broke out at Brushy Creek Church during a meeting of the Saluda Baptist Association in 1832. The church was named for a small stream near the church property.
