The radical witness when congregations…. sing!

Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious.

Glorious worship is exuberant, never half-hearted. It is attractive, not off-putting. It is awesome, never sentimental. It is brilliant not careless. It point to God, not to the speaker….. There is nothing more evangelistic, nothing that will win the world more than glorious worship.

SINGING TOGETHER IS ALEAYS A WITNESS

The church is a place that we bear witness together of the Glory of God and His power.

“The sight and sound of a congregation singing praise to God together is a radical witness in a culture that rejects God and embraces individualism. Our songs are the public manifesto of what we believe.

Your singing is a witness. Is it a good witness or not?

Powerful Witness

Singing was a witness in the Old Testament,

Psalm 117
Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.

Singing was a witness in the New Testament,

Acts 2:46-47
46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

We should be singing the Gospel.

That’s why “In Christ Alone” is such a powerful song. One of the filters I use when I pick a song is what truth does it tell me about God, what message does it convey to the people as they sing it?

Singing the gospel and biblical truths is a way inform our mind and to engage our emotions.

It can also damage our witness….

If we are not growing in our faith through our singing we are in danger of hypocrisy. This will not only affect our relationship with God it will be a turn off the those who know us.

A question to ponder….

In light of Paul’s exhortation to the early church to be mindful that unbelievers are watching as we worship, are you willing to give up your personal preferences so that the singing in your church is a witness to unbelievers?
