Scripture

The Situation

  • If we consider ourselves invincible, we will refuse to acknowledge our mortality.
  • We endanger those around us by refusing to deal with our unfinished business until after we are gone.
  • If you don’t decide now what will happen to your responsibilities and resources once you are gone, someone else will decide for you.
  • Failing to prepare financially for your final days and your last one will create a significant burden on your loved ones.
  • The ability to enjoy and invest later in life depends on your ability to deny yourself now.

The Scriptures

1 Timothy 6:17-19

  • Be careful that your increase of wealth does not lead you to trust in it arrogantly (6:17).
  • Never forget that wealth’s stability is uncertain – no matter how much you have (6:17).
  • Express gratitude to God for the thorough ways He gives us blessings to enjoy (6:17).
  • Seek to do good with the wealth entrusted to you (6:18).
  • A sign of healthy spiritual maturity is the presence of an eager generosity (6:18).
  • Your long-term legacy of generosity is contingent upon present-day stewardship (6:19).
  • We experience the best of life’s treasures by being willing to give our best away (6:19).

The Steps

  • Create a will.
  • Make wise decisions regardless of how others will feel about it.
  • Evaluate your financial situation.
  • Make gradual adjustments to get where you need to be.
  • Inform someone of your plans.
  • Consider how your giving could outlive you.
  • Consider unique ways to contribute to ministry efforts.
  • Keep funding the Great Commission until Jesus comes back.
