There are many reasons why studying the Bible is important. Not only do we get to know Who God is, but we also find our purpose. In addition to finding purpose, we find our delight in Him and His Word. Psalm 1 says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”

Spending time studying God’s Word is not a waste of time nor is it in vain. He is our shelter and dwelling place. In fact, Psalms 27:4 states, “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.”

To best prepare to spend time with God in His Word, a wise person will deal with unconfessed sin. Sin breaks fellowship with God. To best be prepared to hear from Him through His Word, confession of sin is imperative. Psalm 66:18 says, “If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer.” Once we have confessed our sin and have prepared our hearts to spend time in God’s Word, we can then truly proceed with different ways of studying God’s Word.

One example for studying God’s Word is called the “SOAP” method. The SOAP method stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Many have found this method to be successful for them as they learn to get into God’s Word and truly learn from Him. Another tool that is popular is the Scripture App. The Scripture App is a wonderful tool when you are on the go, have a busy day, or simply do not have your Bible with you. The app will provide daily Scripture readings, explanations, and will help enrich your quiet time. Whatever way works best for you, seek after it so that you can truly deepen your relationship with Him.
