Stewardship

Stewardship is an old term that describes individual responsibility. Modern dictionaries describe stewardship as, "the individual's responsibility to manage his life and property with proper regard to the rights of others."  Many associate stewardship with with a giving program. In fact, when asked what stewardship is, many believers will connect it to giving.

John MacArthur writes, " Stewardship encompasses the whole idea of giving to spiritual causes and funding kingdom enterprises- investing in eternity by means of the church, so that the body of Christ might carry out its ministry, which sometimes includes meeting the physical and financial needs of its own people."

God has entrusted every Christian with the responsibility to manage money and possessions. Truly, everything we own, from the smallest to the largest, belongs to Him.  He graciously allows us to have things for His glory. "Therefore, we must use our resources for God's honor and glory" ( John MacArthur).  Luke 16:10-11 says, "He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. Therefore, if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you? (Luke 16:10-11). The Bible encourages us to handle money and possessions rightly, consequently, we will be blessed.  MacArthur goes on to say, "If you want the Lord to use you in the advancement of His kingdom, you have a great incentive to be a good steward of the wealth He has bestowed on you."

May God enlarge our ministry and use us mightily for His glory through our obedient and wise use of things He has entrusted to us.
