Studying God's Word Intentionally
Studying God's Word Intentionally
There are different ways or approaches to studying God’s Word. The Students have learned that His Word is alive and is powerful. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” His Word is powerful and active in our lives, especially as we intentionally study His Word and allow God to work in us.
All Scripture Is Breathed Out By God
God’s Word is very unique. Many people know 2 Timothy 3:16a, as it says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God.” It is His Word to us. We learn so many things from His Word. In fact, we learn that He is eternal. 1 Peter 1:24-25 states, “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” His Word, as we get to know Him, changes us and makes us more like Christ.
When we approach God’s Word with intent, we should keep some things in mind. First, in order to truly know God and grow to be more like Christ, we must read His Word. Being intentional to read God’s Word is a must for the believer. Second, we must study God’s Word. One question would be, “How are we seeking God’s will and wisdom for our lives?” We must study God’s Word to find His will and purpose for our lives. Professor D.A. Carson writes, “We are dealing with God’s thoughts: we are obligated to take the greatest pains to understand them truly and to explain them clearly.” Third, we must memorize God’s Word. We must be intentional to truly commit His Word to our memory. Psalm 119:47-48 says, “For I find my delight in your commandments, which I love. I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love and I will meditate on your statutes.” Lastly, we must obey God’s Word. We must submit our will to His will and seek Him with our whole heart. Psalm 119: 33-34 says, “Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end. Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.”
Teach Me, O Lord, The Way Of Your Statutes
May we all strive to know God more through His Word as He changes us and makes us more like Christ.
