Overview of Galatians
- The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to churches in modern-day Turkey between 47-50.
- The Jewish Christians were debating what type of restrictions Gentile Christians should keep.
- Paul’s first and feistiest letter combatted the notion that we need the gospel plus anything for salvation.
Observations
- Jesus Christ saved and sent the Apostle Paul – no one else could get the credit for that (1:1-2).
- The grace of Jesus is the only way to have peace with God (1:3).
- Jesus volunteered His life to rescue us from death (1:4).
- Redemption unfolded as the glorious plan of God from before the beginning (1:5).
- The human heart quickly reverts from God’s grace to our works (1:6).
- If it doesn’t sound like good news, it’s not the gospel (1:7).
- Anybody or being that shares a false gospel is accursed (1:8-9).
- If you know God is pleased with you, you won’t compromise to please others (1:10).
Considerations
- Beware of counterfeit gospels that cannot save you.
- If your testimony sounds like something you accomplished, you are not saved.
- Do you need to share the gospel?
- Do you need to believe the gospel?
