Crucified Lives
Paul was so enthralled by the power of the gospel that he confronted others who were wavering in its truth. By faith and faith alone, we can experience lives that have been crucified with Christ.
Observations
- Paul’s testimony was built on Christ and not dependent upon anyone else (1:15-24).
- Beware those who inject religious bondage into gospel freedom (2:1-5).
- The gospel is not reserved for people with a particular religion, ethnicity, or affluence (2:6-10).
- Paul tried to destroy Christianity from the outside (1:13-14); Peter was now dismantling it from the inside (2:11).
- Religious peer pressure can lead you to compromise what you believe in order to accommodate who you esteem (2:12-14).
- We are in the wrong due to what we’ve done; we can be made right by trusting in what Christ has done (2:15-18).
- Christ’s death for me empowers my life for Him (2:19-20).
- If you could save yourself by righteous living, then it was pointless for Christ to die (2:21).
Applications
- Even if the religious majority repositions against God, He’s not in the wrong.
- You don’t hold to a theological position on the gospel if you don’t personally practice it.
- You will never find the life God promised until you embrace the death that Christ offered.
- Have you been justified (made right) by faith (complete trust) in Christ alone (good news)?
