How to Reenter the Presence of God
Within the structure of the tabernacle, God architected details to remind us of how sin separates and how sacrifice restores. Our sin has separated us from God, and our only hope to reenter His presence is upon His conditions.
Observations
- The tabernacle’s divisions were not to keep people from God but to keep God from the people (26:1-30).
- Reminiscent of Eden, the curtains woven with cherubim reminded them how sin exiles people from God (26:31-37).
- God ensured that the mobile bronze altar was the first sight of worshipers to reinforce their need for a sacrifice (27:1-8).
- The courtyard reminded the people of their need for a brave high priest to mediate for them (27:9-19).
- God wanted the lampstand lit continually to reinforce His unwavering light even amid dark times (27:20-21).
Applications
- If you want to reenter the presence of God, let me reintroduce you to Jesus.
- Jesus is the better tabernacle, making a way to dwell with God.
- Jesus is the better Eden guardian, disarming the cherubim and welcoming us into paradise.
- Jesus is the better sacrifice, given once and for all by satisfying the wrath of God.
- Jesus is the better high priest, who mediated our condition before the throne of God.
- Jesus is the better light who shines our way through the world’s darkness.
