Don’t Get too Comfortable Down Here

  • To know God is to be forgiven. (v.12)
  • Even the spiritually mature must receive instruction and encouragement. (v.13)
  • The statements of confidence are meant to motivate the statements of vigilance. (v.14)

The Love that God Hates (2:15-17)

  • Worldliness destroys our devotion. (v.15)
  • The world is treacherous and filled with fool’s gold. (v.16)
    • The lust of the flesh demands our appetite.

    • The pride of life appeals to our ambitions.
  • The world is temporary, but God’s glory is forever. (v.17)

Summary

  • Unless this victory over the world is begun in the heart, and rooted in identity, we will fall away, or at best be unfruitful.

Challenge

  • Who you are will establish how you live, but how you live will give evidence of just who you are and whose you are.
  • Who are you? Would anyone know if you didn’t tell them?
