Global Missions: From Sporadic to Strategic

While it is encouraging to take mission trips to multiple places, focusing more on fewer initiatives can be more effective. Moving missions from sporadic to strategic creates pipelines to engage the unreached.

Scripture
Romans 10:13-15

Sporadic

  • If making disciples, and not simply converts, is at the heart of all that we do, then we must ensure our missional efforts are aligned with this goal.
  • Short-term mission trips are a modern concept that has both aided and jaded the Church in reaching the nations.
  • While much progress has been made, the task of forming disciples of all ethnolinguistic groups in the world remains incomplete.

Scripture (Romans 10:13-15)

  • While God does not require our help to accomplish His mission, He has tasked His followers with being His ambassadors to the nations. (15b)
  • Mobilization – A preacher must be sent. (15a)
  • Evangelism – The sent preacher must proclaim good news. (14c)
  • Reception – The good news must be clearly heard. (14b)
  • Decision – The heard news must be believed or rejected. (14a)
  • Salvation – The gift given upon those who call out for both a Savior and a Lord. (13)

Strategic

  • Any strategy that does not align with the mission of God may help people for a season but will fall short of providing a permanent solution.
  • Unreached people are unreached for a reason. We must make an intentional effort to reach, teach, and mobilize to the next place.
  • Leveraging your life so that others can receive good news is at the core of being a follower of Jesus.
  • If God has made you aware of the need, He has already given you the invitation.
