Bible Translation Initiative

Without access to the Scriptures, a people group is significantly hindered from establishing healthy churches. We must prioritize getting all of the Bible into the hands of all people.

Scripture

Psalm 19

  • Creation tells us there is a God; Scripture tells us what He’s like.
  • Without authoritative texts, people can create or distort religion to make it say whatever they want.
  • People need the perfect Word of God in order to follow Him adequately.

Bike for Bibles

Overview

  • Bike for Bibles is a citywide effort to raise awareness and support for a Bible translation.
  • Partnering with the Seed Company, we will attempt to meet the remaining need for a people group for whom there is no existing translation of the Bible in their language.
  • With the great community and context for cycling in Greenville County, we will create an opportunity to fundraise, culminating with a rallying event held near the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

Fundraising

  1. Cyclists – Register to ride for the event at $35, which covers the cost for one verse to be translated. Attempt to fundraise more and commit to ride as many miles, leading up to the event, as you have verses sponsored.
  2. Contributors – Donate increments of $35 to the project to cover the translation of your favorite verses, chapters, or even books.
  3. Churches – Include an amount in your budget or set a goal for a special offering to contribute toward the translation. Preach through a book of the Bible and take responsibility for the translation of that book in another language.

Event

  • April 12, 2025 // Unity Park
  • We will encourage participants to take their own course the day of or the days leading up to the event to complete all sponsored miles.
  • Pick your starting line, and we’ll meet you at the finish line.

Scenarios

  • A family with young children could ride 1 mile on the Swamp Rabbit trail.
  • A teen could track miles throughout the weeks leading up and finish the last 5 downtown.
  • An avid cyclist could track 50 miles around Greenville County that day and plan to finish at the coordinated time.
  • As people converge on the event, we will culminate the effort with a night of worship.
  • If you were to take an aerial view of the day, you would see people of all ages around Greenville County wearing “Bike for Bibles” jerseys converging to the same spot together.
  • It would be like seeing the spokes of a wheel as cyclists come from every corner of the county.
