Glory Days

People often view the future as bleak if they perceive the past as ideal. If we only focus on what God did previously, we will miss the glory days that He desires to bring now.

Scripture
Haggai 2:1-9
  • You may miss what God wants to do next if you only focus on what He did last.

Observation

  • God provides ongoing and intentional encouragement to complete His work (2:1-2).
  • Comparison often robs us of appropriate joy (2:3).
  • We should attempt God’s work with the awareness that He is with us (2:4-5).
  • This world has never been out of control with God at the helm (2:6-7).
  • God has the necessary resources to accomplish His will (2:8).
  • No matter how good the glory days were, God has something better in store (2:9).

Application

  • Behold Jesus as the greater temple.
  • Don’t idolize a person, place, or period so much that you miss the presence of God.
  • Let’s do our part and trust that God will do His.
  • God’s agenda should never be attempted with mediocre efforts.
  • Work diligently for anything that helps people find peace with God.
  • The real glory days are the ones ahead of us.
