Scripture
1 Peter 3:8-12

Context

  • Peter has proclaimed that a Christ-centered hope gives us a lens in which to see the world, know our true identity, and carry ourselves well amidst suffering.

Examine the Passage

  • The characteristics of believers are displayed specifically by how we relate to one another (3:8).
  • Christians are to silence and disarm the hostility of an unbelieving world with their Christlike conduct (3:9).
  • Because God has blessed us with a living Hope and called us to a greater purpose we are to bless others (3:9).
  • Peter quotes Psalm 34 as an encouragement, if we are to love life and see good days, we must be obedient to the Word of God (3:10-12).

Examine Your heart

  • Because God has blessed you to be a blessing, you must lovingly have the courage to talk to people, not about people.
  • Because God has blessed you to be a blessing, you must confront the pride and selfishness in your heart.
  • Because God has blessed you to be a blessing, you must repent, turn away from sin, and pursue righteousness through faith in Jesus.
