Understanding the Bible

  • Jesus was never Plan B regarding the Old Testament strategy (1:10).
  • The Holy Spirit foreshadowed details of Christ so we could identify Him (1:11).
  • Our testimonies are contingent upon previous generations passing the gospel baton to us (1:12).

Unpacking the Bible

  • Adam and Eve – A substitute was required to cover their shame (Gen. 3:21).
  • Abel – This shepherd was murdered by his kinsman for giving his best (Gen. 4:8).
  • Noah – Humanity paid for its sin unless it was shielded by an intervening piece of timber (Gen. 7:23).
  • Isaac – This son obeyed his father to the mountain of sacrifice (Gen. 22:8).
  • Judah – This son was a willing substitute, so his father would not grieve the death of one he loved (Gen. 44:34).
  • Joseph – This favored son of his father was sacrificed for the survival of others (Gen. 45:5).
  • Passover Lamb – This unblemished sacrifice secured freedom for those who didn’t deserve it (Ex. 12:13).
  • Moses – This homeless prophet was a willing replacement for the sinners who earned judgment (Ex. 32:32).
  • David – This king welcomed his frail opponents to dine at his table (2 Sam. 9:13).
  • Jonah – This prophet continued the ministry when he rose on the third day (Jon. 1:17).
  • The Fourth Man – This messenger from God joined the obedient servants in their suffering (Dan. 3:25).
