Everybody’s Doing It

Our culture seems shocked and annoyed if Christians don’t join or support expressions of wild living. It is better to suffer for refusing temptation than it will be for those who embrace defiance.

Scripture
1 Peter 4:1-6

Consider

  • Christ’s suffering included both His fight against temptation and His surrender to pay for our sins (4:1).
  • The serious disciple is fed up with the presence of sin in one’s life (4:2).
  • Don’t continue your previous activities into your new life (4:3).
  • Any mindset that encourages someone to embrace every urge of the flesh is destructive (4:3).
  • Refusing to engage in or support sinful activity, you will create opponents seeking to slander you (4:4).
  • You can ignore God’s standard now, but you will have to face Him sooner or later (4:5).
  • The gospel is still powerful enough to save the wildest sinner (4:6).

Prepare

  • Have you received the gospel? Jesus died for sins He didn’t commit so we could obtain righteousness that we don’t deserve.
  • Are you feeling pressured to conform? If the entire world unites against God, we are still in the wrong.
  • How are you giving in to temptation? We often fail in temptation because we avoid preparation.
